What happens when you tie pork fat to a computer keyboard and let birds peck at it?  You get the most unique (and according to one of the nerds, boring) Twitter feed ever.  Meet Valdemars Dudums, the man behind Hungry Birds.  You can also catch up with Morgan Spurlock this week.  The man behind Super Size Me has made a documentary about product placement in films, but ran in to a bit of money trouble since no one would sponsor it.  (no, we’re not kidding) .  The nerds look at how he found his way through, and do a verbal compare and contrast essay on the similarities and differences of Mr. Spurlock and another well known button pushing documentarian.

Why would anyone, much less the US government build a version of a Star Wars AT-AT walker?  Believe it or not, this is actually being talked about.  That is, it was until the sharks in Lucasfilm’s legal department caught wind of it.  (good thing he never made a film about electricity or dialysis machines)  Crashboy reminds us of the awesomeness of Gene Roddenberry, while Art questions the wisdom of bipedal automatons.

All that plus, the sneak preview of Battlefield 3, a Russian dead alien hoax, and the best (and perhaps only) Super Mario marriage proposal ever.

Have Will and Kate signed a prenup?  Although a high profile legal firm is heartily suggesting they should (surprise, surprise), no one seems to know.  But with the big day fast approaching, the nerds look at the rumors and discuss the pros and cons of the happy couple planning ahead for their tabloid years.  Perhaps Kate is even planning ahead to the years of wrinkled cleavage.  Well, she need not worry.  All she has to do is grab herself the new La Decollete Sleeping Beauty bra, which promises to give leering men a smoother playing surface when they steal a glance.

Ahhh, those hands free faucets.  Thank goodness they’re here protecting us all from disease.  Not so fast says a study out of Australia.  It turns out those faucets are actually carrying MORE disease.  How?  The nerds investigate.   And while going over recent studies, they also delve into the one that shockingly claims Facebook to be a catalyst for narcissism. Who would have thought!

Are you a fan of Angry Birds?  Are you wondering if maybe you’re addicted?  Well, it turns out the cure for your addiction has been found, and it lies in the hands of… Mike Tyson.  The nerds look at the newest viral ad hitting the tubes this week and digress into the downside of being a muscle bound mouth breather?

Apps made the news this week, starting with the Idaho man arrested for impersonating a police officer (or more accurately impersonating a police car) using only an app that flashed red and blue.  And if Apple evades hot water for approving that party trick, they didn’t escape the wrath of gay groups who had harsh words for Steve and the boys after they approved an app which claims to cure your homosexuality.

The nerds have pined for jet packs on previous episodes of the big show and thanks to a heads up for a reader, we now have the link to a new shiny flying toy that we’ll probably never get.  The nerds look at the Martin Jetpack, a flying monstrosity that can be yours for a mere fraction of a million dollars.  Cheaper however would be an ebook reader and it seems most of the country agrees seeing as sales of ebooks has taken off significantly.

All that plus… invisibility vs flight, the many uses of sock puppets, and why Facebook and bigamy still just don’t go well together.

This week Art tells us about a Michigan couple whose marital unhappiness has reached such heights, the husband is currently facing hacking charges for reading her email.  And in the vein of tech problems, Crashboy shares the absolute worst part of coming home for Christmas.

Do you know what an earworm is?  No no, not the Chekov kind, the music kind.  One company thinks they have an online cure for that song stuck in your head.  The nerds find it might create more problems than it cures though.  Maybe the song is an old children’s ditty you remember from your kindergarten days.  You know, the one they payed the copy write fees for?  What?? Your kindergarten didn’t pay fees for the songs it used in class??!!  You must not be from Germany then.  That’s the country where you’ll find the piracy police currently patrolling the tiny desks and chairs of the classroom for any infringements.

All that plus, Art gloats over two accurate predictions, pirates just can’t get enough of naked blue people, and some of the weirdest news stories of 2010.  All on the epic, viral, wow factor podcast of mama grizzlies and the American people, Lesser Nerds.

After all, we lost Leslie Neilsen this week, so the nerds take a few minutes to give props to the man who gave us a few of the most quotable punchlines in movie history.  We also, in true net hipster style, point out a few errors being made in some of the quotes being attributed to the late great Mr. Neilsen.  However, our tweeting of a lovely montage of his funniest moments leads us into the dark underbelly of YouTube to see things we didn’t know were there (hint: it’s not sneezing pandas).

Tron is only a few weeks away now and Crashboy consolidates his intention to make it the movie to which he loses his tender 3D flower.  Ah, they grow up so fast.  Jeff Bridges grew up too, which is why the folks over at Disney whipped up some magic software to make him look younger for the film — a development he’s quite happy with!

If you thought you knew Edison, well you might want to think again.  After all, this is the man who gave us the cement phonograph, the ghost detector and the snuff film (no, we’re not making that last one up).

Are you surprised that there’s a guy who swallowed a pill to turn his stomach into a jukebox?  No, neither were we.  We talk about his possible motivations for doing it, and chances are you’ll be able to see Art’s punchline coming down 5th Ave.  We also look at a few things this week that we NEVER saw coming.  For example France becomes the first country to get a 3D porn on demand channel (hide your shock), Willie Nelson gets busted for pot (whaaaaaa??!!), and the server for Wikileaks is housed in a nuclear bomb shelter (what, are they paranoid or something?).

All that plus, Angry Birds for Christmas, information overload in the age of Gutenberg, and why Art thinks the electric car might very well be the next iPad (it apparently makes sense to him).

Although we give short shrift to all things political this week, we did have to pause to marvel at the sheer audacity of the New York congressman who attempted to win his debate by placing his opponent’s ex-wife in the front row!  Not that it worked. In fact, he might have had better luck with Suzette, a chatbot program that fooled judges into thinking it was human by distracting them.

It turns out space may very well be the final frontier for some lucky volunteers..  this according to NASA who have announced plans for their “100 Year Spaceship.”  (interpretation? one way trip).  But for the less intrepid space lover, you could instead opt for the full operating manual of the USS Enterprise which was released this week!

Hey, Georgie is thinking about making three brand new Star Wars films which would be sequels to the 6 extant ones.  Burning question – will there be Ewoks?  At least there was some good news from space this week – it turns out the moon has more water than we thought.  Which means we’ll be able to go there and completely tear it apart.  Yay us!

Crashboy takes us through a study of 11 sci fi predictions that actually came true, in which our true nerd bona fides come into serious question when we have to look up Hugo Gernsback on Wikipedia.  We reclaim them somewhat however when we look at the new earth-like planet that was discovered last week, and suggest reasons why Gliese 581g might not be the best spot to build a summer home.

All that plus, the fans flood the Facebook page this week, the army actually DOES have an Iron Man suit, and why you may not want to be making fun of your British friends’ teeth.  All on America’s most trusted podcast, Lesser Nerds.

Fortunately it’s not all about the battle of the sexes this week.  For example, it seems the display models of iPads are rife with bacteria.  You might not want to touch one.  Lord knows Crashboy doesn’t want to, ever since Art suggested he start playing Angry Birds.  We finally get his review of the game this week, replete with profanity.

Wondered why we had no mention of Star Wars in the last few weeks?  Yeah, neither were we.  But still, we decide to remedy, at least in part, that unfortunate imbalance, by giving props to an amazing video showing what Star Wars would look like if it had been made in 1950.  Then the nerds go bravely into new territory by presenting a dramatic reading from one of the hilarious chats on chitchatwithdave.com

All that, plus the legendary Dr. Demento drops by to talk to the lads, and gives a lesson in what it means to be graceful in the face of a changing world.

Yeah, so did we…. So let’s just begin this week with the fine folks at Yahoo.  Seems they want to revamp their site, so they’ve hitched their trailer onto the Facebook wagon.  Will it work?  It probably has the same chance of success as The Gore’s marriage.  (Perhaps Al finally figured out that he was married to someone named “Tipper”)  Hey, speaking of Al, how about that electric car thingy.  Seems you might have a few more places to charge your new Chevy Volt now that charging stations are finally arriving.

Not that the folks over at the Mars project will care… they’re now locked in with each other for the next 520 days.  Let’s hope someone brought a good mix tape.  When they finally get around to going to Mars, perhaps the man behind PayPal will be the one taking them there, now that he has his own pet rocket.

This week we also look to the future, much as unheralded genius Robert Boyle did 200 years ago.  Although we probably won’t be quite as accurate as he was.  Good thing we have tech guru Cory Doctrow around to sit down for a chat, and tell us his opinions of the 12 events that will change everything.
