Well, in last week’s “strike” episode the nerds did promise jackassery upon their return, and they are men of their word. So they have reemerged after single handedly getting the controversial bill to die. Well, ok, they had a bit of help from some site called Wikipedia, as well as a few million outraged grassrooters who didn’t want the boys in Washington messing with their intertubes.

Considering the questions coming out of Crashboy this week, you might wonder if he’s been getting close with da ganja. How else would you explain his query regarding how better to improve the human body through non existent genetics? It does however lead Art to ask that age old question… invisibility, or flight?

Some people have written in to say we talk about iPhones way more than we talk about Blackberry. We’d like to remedy that. If only there was some sort of big news coming out of the hallways at Research In Motion that would facilitate a conversation regarding the future of the “other” smartphone. I guess we’ll just have to try and make something out of this minor shuffle they came up with this week. No biggie.

Apple wasn’t exactly quiet either this week. In fact, it’s quite possible they might have taken the first steps towards changing the way we go to school. The nerds take a hands on look at iBooks 2 and the future of the text book. The verdict? Well,… listen and see.

All that plus, Star Wars Uncut, Bad Lip Reading, and just what the hell is a skeumorph??

Just in case there was any doubt left in your mind that the nerds are mind numbingly old, we start this week’s episode with the boys geeking out over a 30 year old paramedic based TV show. And if the name Randolph Mantooth actually means something to you, chances are you’ll geek out a bit too. Crashboy actually takes it a step further by giving some love to the early cell phone technology showcased in “Emergency!”

As when it comes to geeking out over phone technology, no one does it better than the current commander in chief. B.O (wait, his initials are B.O? Why has no one run with that??) was caught in an unscripted moment this week complaining about how old school the phones in the Oval Office are. And after some cursory research, the nerds decide… he’s right!

A study came out this week illustrating the way magic mushrooms work, showing they actually constrict the flow of blood to your brain, not increase it. And leave it to the boys to turn it geeky with a Star Trek reference. Although from what we can determine, Star Trek never made mention of hemp, which is getting a lot more talk as a legitimate cotton alternative. The nerds briefly visit the sordid history of marijuana, with help from Boing Boing editor Cory Doctorow.

We got an update this week on the topic of in app purchases, seeing as how Apple was hit recently with a class action lawsuit based around Smurfberries. (you can’t make this stuff up.) And speaking of purchasing on the intertubes, it looks like ebooks have reached the tipping point and are now on the fast track to ubiquity. With sales up and tablets flying out of stores, ebooks outsold paperbacks and all other formats in February, the first month that’s ever happened.

All that plus, the fast easy way to argue with someone online, the dubious future of the Blackberry Playbook, and what it would sound like if Ronald Reagan and George Takei had a child together.

How would you like this week’s podcast to end? If you want a smart ass comment from Art, skip ahead to 5:43. If you want a trenchant comment from Crashboy, go to 12:32.

Wouldn’t it be nice if we actually cared enough to do that. Alas, the “choose your own adventure” books are distant memories from our past. Or are they. It turns out one of the founders of the books is attempting to stage a comeback, in tablet form. Will it work? The nerds are hopeful.

The nerds are less hopeful however about Apple’s new subscription model that lets you virtually subscribe to your favorite magazine. The lads from Cupertino seem to be aiming for a bigger piece of the pie than the magazine industry was ready for, and Google is breathing down their necks.

We also spend a bit of time this week helping those sitting at their desks stuck in a productivity gap. Art takes us to a virtually indescribable web based time killer, and Crashboy tips us off to the idea of rebooting your computer when you find yourself procrastinating. Why? Listen and see.

If you watched the events in Egypt and wondered at the possibility of a similar internet shut down happening here, you’re not alone. The idea of a decentralized internet to keep Big Brother’s hands out of your tubes is occupying the minds of many people, including a Columbia law professor who is trying to build a gadget to keep your internet private. Maybe he could also help them come up with a way to stop our new wireless technology from interfering with current GPS.

If you’ve found the relationship options on Facebook to be limited and not really applying too much to you, you were probably very happy this week at the announcement of their LGBT options, as well as a few more confusing ones that were clearly written by a lawyer.

All that plus, the confusing death of Uncle Leo, erotic Jurassic Park fan fiction, and what the world looks like through the eyes of a hot booty.

<itunes:summary>How would you like this week's podcast to end? If you want a smart ass comment from Art, skip ahead to 5:43. If you want a trenchant comment from Crashboy, go to 12:32.

Wouldn't it be nice if we actually cared enough to do that. Alas, the "choose your own adventure" books are distant memories from our past. Or are they. It turns out one of the founders of the books is attempting to stage a comeback, in tablet form (http://ca.gizmodo.com/5765019/choose-your-own-adventure-series-reborn-in-books-and-apps). Will it work? The nerds are hopeful.

The nerds are less hopeful however about Apple's new subscription model (http://ca.gizmodo.com/5761383/apples-new-subscription-model-is-evil) that lets you virtually subscribe to your favorite magazine. The lads from Cupertino seem to be aiming for a bigger piece of the pie than the magazine industry was ready for, and Google is breathing down their necks.

We also spend a bit of time this week helping those sitting at their desks stuck in a productivity gap. Art takes us to a virtually indescribable web based time killer (http://baboon.co.il/mitoza/), and Crashboy tips us off to the idea of rebooting your computer when you find yourself procrastinating (http://www.boingboing.net/2011/02/19/xkcds-productivity-t.html). Why? Listen and see.

If you watched the events in Egypt and wondered at the possibility of a similar internet shut down happening here, you're not alone. The idea of a decentralized internet to keep Big Brother's hands out of your tubes is occupying the minds of many people, including a Columbia law professor who is trying to build a gadget to keep your internet private (http://www.nytimes.com/2011/02/16/nyregion/16about.html?_r=3). Maybe he could also help them come up with a way to stop our new wireless technology from interfering with current GPS (http://www.dodbuzz.com/2011/02/17/new-wireless-tech-jams-gps/).

If you've found the relationship options on Facebook to be limited and not really applying too much to you, you were probably very happy this week at the announcement of their LGBT options (http://mashable.com/2011/02/17/facebook-lgbt-relationships/?utm_source=iphoneapp&utm_medium=rss&utm_content=textlink&utm_campaign=iphoneapp), as well as a few more confusing ones that were clearly written by a lawyer.

All that plus, the confusing death of Uncle Leo, erotic Jurassic Park fan fiction (http://ijpeffwa.friendsofsmash.co.uk/archives.html), and what the world looks like through the eyes of a hot booty (http://ca.gizmodo.com/5761321/hidden-asscam-reveals-what-really-goes-on-behind-womens-backs).</itunes:summary>

(http://online.wsj.com/article/SB10001424052748703609004575355072271264394.html?mod=WSJ_hpp_LEFTTopStories)" Turns out, scientists have come across antibodies that kill over 90% of HIV strains.

Would you want Yoda telling you where to go? Turns out you can, now that his voice is being used by Tom Tom (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FdcJVuylmsM). Yes, it'll come in handy on Degobah, but still.... Last week, Crashboy told us Prince hates the internet (http://www.thedailybeast.com/blogs-and-stories/2010-07-08/prince-hates-the-internet/) so this week, we have a look and try to figure out why. (answer- he's weird) Generation Y doesn't hate the internet though. In fact, a new study says social networking will be a permanent part of their lives. (http://mashable.com/2010/07/09/gen-y-social-networking/) This will have a ripple effect it seems, as Twitter will eventually make all your friends hate you. (http://nymag.com/daily/intel/2010/07/twitter_made_me_hate_you.html)

All that plus, turning a page was patented by Microsoft (http://bits.blogs.nytimes.com/2010/07/09/turning-the-page-on-the-page-turn/)?, iPhone vs Android (http://www.businessinsider.com/this-chart-should-scare-the-bejesus-out-of-apple-2010-7#ixzz0tO0GvWsQ) redux, and Art's nomination for headline of the year (http://www.irishcentral.com/news/news_from_ireland/Woman-in-sumo-wrestler-suit-assaults-ex-girlfriend-after-waving-at-man-dressed-as-Snickers-bar-97262439.html)!</itunes:summary>

Hey… did you hear the one about the iPad mini?

Yeah, so did we…. So let’s just begin this week with the fine folks at Yahoo. Seems they want to revamp their site, so they’ve hitched their trailer onto the Facebook wagon. Will it work? It probably has the same chance of success as The Gore’s marriage. (Perhaps Al finally figured out that he was married to someone named “Tipper”) Hey, speaking of Al, how about that electric car thingy. Seems you might have a few more places to charge your new Chevy Volt now that charging stations are finally arriving.

Not that the folks over at the Mars project will care… they’re now locked in with each other for the next 520 days. Let’s hope someone brought a good mix tape. When they finally get around to going to Mars, perhaps the man behind PayPal will be the one taking them there, now that he has his own pet rocket.

This week we also look to the future, much as unheralded genius Robert Boyle did 200 years ago. Although we probably won’t be quite as accurate as he was. Good thing we have tech guru Cory Doctrow around to sit down for a chat, and tell us his opinions of the 12 events that will change everything.

All that, plus Apple vs Android, the psychology of fanboyism, and what exactly an intrepid reporter found in a SoCal junkyard. (hint… “You’re gonna need a bigger tow truck.”)

Oh yeah, and there was some sort of iPhone thing this week…?

Art was right — it turns out the 3D revolution might just be driven by porn after all. We look at that, as well as the teenager who got a very public and jaw-dropping revenge on his sister for ratting-out his secret stash of beer.
