We pause this week to give props to Norio Ohga. Don’t know who that is? Well, chances are you have his invention in your house. (hint: it’s small, shiny, round and holds 75 minutes of music.) The nerds take a few minutes to give props to the father of the CD.

What happens when you tie pork fat to a computer keyboard and let birds peck at it? You get the most unique (and according to one of the nerds, boring) Twitter feed ever. Meet Valdemars Dudums, the man behind Hungry Birds. You can also catch up with Morgan Spurlock this week. The man behind Super Size Me has made a documentary about product placement in films, but ran in to a bit of money trouble since no one would sponsor it. (no, we’re not kidding) . The nerds look at how he found his way through, and do a verbal compare and contrast essay on the similarities and differences of Mr. Spurlock and another well known button pushing documentarian.

Why would anyone, much less the US government build a version of a Star Wars AT-AT walker? Believe it or not, this is actually being talked about. That is, it was until the sharks in Lucasfilm’s legal department caught wind of it. (good thing he never made a film about electricity or dialysis machines) Crashboy reminds us of the awesomeness of Gene Roddenberry, while Art questions the wisdom of bipedal automatons.

Has Charlie jumped the shark? After all, in the accelerated world of the Twitterverse, viral sensations have “the half life of a fruit fly” and it seems Charlie and his antics are everywhere… including the Flimm Building. That’s right, the bad boy of the month decided to drop by the LN studios this week for an interview. Don’t get too excited though, at this point, he’s giving interviews to pretty much anyone with a mic. As he would say, he’s just not of this “terrestrial realm.” Which leads us to the baffling fact that no one seems to be making a big deal about the possible discovery of proof of extraterrestrial life! We know, the idea of Spanish algae doesn’t seem too sexy on the surface, but these are space rocks dude!

Do smartphones make you sexy? If you think so, chances are you’re a guy. Chances are also pretty good that you haven’t gotten any for quite some time. Maybe you should just go out in a two weeks and get yourself a brand spanking new iPad 2. Crashboy tells us why he will be doing exactly that, and tips his hand as to who he will bequeath his now antiquated iPad 1 to.

Have you seen the new Old Spice commercial? More importantly, have you seen the behind the scenes video about how they made the new Old Spice commercial. The nerds take a look at the continued rebranding of a drug store fragrance also ran.

Northwest University might need a bit of rebranding following last week’s live sex toy demonstration that landed the institution in hot water. It turns out keeping your students after class and showing them exactly how to use a f#*k saw is not considered sound pedagogy. Who knew? (Maybe the same people who knew that 50% of men might very well be carrying the HPV virus.)

All that plus, when the world is going to end, listener feedback, and what exactly (or to be more specific, how much) a Florida prison inmate had stored in a very private place. All on Chuck Lorre’s favorite podcast, Lesser Nerds.

New year… same nerds. Having recovered from the “epic” Christmas party, the “BFF” nerds plunge right in to the new year, where they “man up” and “refudiate” any thoughts of taking a break, with an examination of words from 2010 that have to be banished. Perhaps you’re familiar with a few of them. Better yet, perhaps you read them on the shiny new Kindle you got for Christmas. After all, Amazon played their cards right, making the ebook reader their best seller this holiday season. Maybe that’s one of the reasons iPad magazine sale dropped in 2010. Or maybe it’s just because Steve Jobs is being kinda anal about stuff. (I know, we were stunned too).

This week Art tells us about a Michigan couple whose marital unhappiness has reached such heights, the husband is currently facing hacking charges for reading her email. And in the vein of tech problems, Crashboy shares the absolute worst part of coming home for Christmas.

Do you know what an earworm is? No no, not the Chekov kind, the music kind. One company thinks they have an online cure for that song stuck in your head. The nerds find it might create more problems than it cures though. Maybe the song is an old children’s ditty you remember from your kindergarten days. You know, the one they payed the copy write fees for? What?? Your kindergarten didn’t pay fees for the songs it used in class??!! You must not be from Germany then. That’s the country where you’ll find the piracy police currently patrolling the tiny desks and chairs of the classroom for any infringements.

All that plus, Art gloats over two accurate predictions, pirates just can’t get enough of naked blue people, and some of the weirdest news stories of 2010. All on the epic, viral, wow factor podcast of mama grizzlies and the American people, Lesser Nerds.

The Queen is on Facebook! The Queen is on Facebook!!! Do you suppose that might give the nerds fodder for a few punchlines? Well fret not. This week’s show begins with a full discussion on the implications of Elizabeth Regina’s social network presence. True to form, Crashboy gives us an impromptu history of the Windsor family’s interactive past, and Art cracks wise.

Also true to form is Crashwife, who this week was subjected to yet another recording of her exploits, this time with her permission, however. Sit back and relax as the made in heaven combination of hotel WiFi, iTunes music store and an innocent iPad conspire to drive the Crashcouple to distraction.

Speaking of driving, did you have any problems behind the wheel this weekend? It turns out, driving after a daylight savings time switch is a wee bit troublesome for some. The nerds take the opportunity to look at some of the quirks of our twice yearly ritual.

Art finds himself somewhat stunned this week by the growing influence of Google on our everyday lives. As an example, the nerds look at a war that was actually started by an error on Google maps. No, we’re not making this up. Then, it’s a quick jaunt into the world of climate change to see how one guy decided to let his Twitter do battle with the twits.

All that plus, the wonders of finger power, the iPod’s place in history, the perils of autocorrect, and the best newspaper apology ever. All on the official podcast of Star Trex, Lesser Nerds.

<itunes:summary>The Queen is on Facebook! The Queen is on Facebook (http://www.usatoday.com/tech/news/2010-11-08-queen-facebook_N.htm)!!! Do you suppose that might give the nerds fodder for a few punchlines? Well fret not. This week's show begins with a full discussion on the implications of Elizabeth Regina's social network presence. True to form, Crashboy gives us an impromptu history of the Windsor family's interactive past, and Art cracks wise.

The nerds take the opportunity to look at some of the quirks of our twice yearly ritual (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Daylight_saving_time).

Art finds himself somewhat stunned this week by the growing influence of Google on our everyday lives. As an example, the nerds look at a war that was actually started by an error on Google maps (http://gizmodo.com/5682017/how-google-maps-led-to-an-accidental-invasion). No, we're not making this up. Then, it's a quick jaunt into the world of climate change to see how one guy decided to let his Twitter do battle with the twits (http://mashable.com/2010/11/03/ai-science-twitter-bot/).

Election fever has gripped the Flimm building. And by that, we mean we discuss the results for a full half minute! Because frankly, there are other more pressing issues to discuss this week. For example, Crashboy seems to think science has come up with one of his long awaited fantasy gifts – a dream recorder. Art however is a bit more skeptical, primarily due to the name of the project’s lead scientist. Art’s skepticism also stretches into the the world of TRON, while Crashboy decides the upcoming Disney flick just might be the one to make him lose his 3D virginity.

Although we give short shrift to all things political this week, we did have to pause to marvel at the sheer audacity of the New York congressman who attempted to win his debate by placing his opponent’s ex-wife in the front row! Not that it worked. In fact, he might have had better luck with Suzette, a chatbot program that fooled judges into thinking it was human by distracting them.

It turns out space may very well be the final frontier for some lucky volunteers.. this according to NASA who have announced plans for their “100 Year Spaceship.” (interpretation? one way trip). But for the less intrepid space lover, you could instead opt for the full operating manual of the USS Enterprise which was released this week!

All that plus, Angry Bird plushies (you heard us), why Facebook users should be nervous on December 11th, and the most disturbing personal collection we’ve ever come across – all on Winona Ryder’s preferred podcast, Lesser Nerds.

As the nerds sat down for their weekly staff meeting last week high atop the Flimm Building, the discussion turned to what we could do to reward our faithful followers for 37 years of loyal podcast listening.

The answer was stunningly simple… a clip show!

After all, when people as disparate as Cyprian of IJustMadeLove.com or Tony Dyson, the creator of R2 D2 have dropped by the studio, it’s only right to share them at the end of the year. 2009 also found us talking to twitter sensation Roof Coffee Cup guy, (who almost got arrested for talking to us) and Professor Jeff Eely who filled us in on the death of pinball.

As if that wasn’t enough, Paul Milo, author of “Your Flying Car Awaits” stopped in to tell us about being a space trucker.

What more could a person ask for this festive holiday season?!

The answer was stunningly simple... a clip show!

After all, when people as disparate as Cyprian of IJustMadeLove.com (http://ijustmadelove.com/) or Tony Dyson (http://www.tonydyson.com/), the creator of R2 D2 have dropped by the studio, it's only right to share them at the end of the year. 2009 also found us talking to twitter sensation Roof Coffee Cup (http://www.instructables.com/id/Roof-Coffee-Cup/) guy, (who almost got arrested for talking to us) and Professor Jeff Eely who filled us in on the death of pinball (http://cheeptalk.wordpress.com/2009/11/17/the-economics-of-pinball/).

Today on Lesser Nerds: the economics of pinball (http://cheeptalk.wordpress.com/2009/11/17/the-economics-of-pinball/)... how the wizards of Williams (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pinball_Hall_of_Fame:_The_Williams_Collection) managed to squeeze the last quarter out of a generation of pimply faced teens. We talk to Jeff Ely (http://cheeptalk.wordpress.com/jeffs-intermediate-micro-course/), who tells us how one pinball machine (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/High_Speed) changed it all.

Set your phasers on stupid: Canadian researchers manage to stun worms and trekkies alike (http://www.telegraph.co.uk/health/healthnews/6607725/Star-Trek-like-phaser-developed.html), and the nerds lament what scientists around the world continue to do to worms (http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/technology/8373739.stm), pigs (http://www.nydailynews.com/lifestyle/health/2009/11/13/2009-11-13_new_breastgrowing_technique_neopac_may_offer_alternative_to_implants.html) and rabbits (http://www.theonion.com/content/amvo/scientists_replace_penile_tissue). Art tells us about a hotel in France where you can get your inner hamster on (http://features.csmonitor.com/economyrebuild/2009/11/17/at-french-hamster-hotel-live-like-a-rodent/). Roof coffee cup (http://www.instructables.com/id/Roof-Coffee-Cup/): how one nerd manages to confuse and amuse New Jersey residents and the twitter-verse.... How the end of the universe was thwarted by a pigeon, a bagette (http://www.telegraph.co.uk/science/large-hadron-collider/6514155/Large-Hadron-Collider-broken-by-bread-dropped-by-passing-bird.html), and a complete lack of common sense. We look at some red flags of Facebook dating (http://ow.ly/ETMv). (hint: make sure your profile picture is taken from a good angle (http://kids.nationalgeographic.com/Animals/CreatureFeature/Hippopotamus))

This week's Ask Art looks at the possible effects a warlock (http://www.worldofwarcraft.com/info/classes/warlock/) would have on your Farmville (http://www.facebook.com/home.php#/apps/application.php?id=102452128776&ref=search&sid=1645830185.2672672765..1) farm. Plus: sex advice from Dungeons & Dragons fans (http://ow.ly/EzN1): how to unsheath your sword geek style, and what Crash Boy did in high school art class (http://www.wizards.com/dnd/article.asp?x=dnd/pp/pp20010607a) to seem more artsy.
